Basseterre, St. Kitts (April 26, 2004): The two attendees of the Caribbean Summit for Children on HIV/AIDS, Jermaine Huggins and Nekita Isles presented the Declaration from the Summit to Governor General His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian last Friday.

Jermaine Huggins of the Verchilds High School and Nekita Isles of the Washington Archibald High School took part in a brief presentation exercise and were able to discuss the issue of HIV/AIDS with Sir Cuthbert.

The morning’s activity commenced with a brief address by Change Agent Mrs. Celia Christopher who was also in attendance.  Mr. Huggins and Ms. Isles then each briefly gave an outline of the Summit, the activities they participated in and their role in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS.  Mr. Huggins then officially presented Sir Cuthbert with his personal copy of the Declaration.

The Governor General grasped the opportunity to immediately read the Declaration and discuss with the participants the personal impact of the summit.  He also encouraged Huggins and Isles to keep him updated in their HIV/AIDS related activities.  He committed himself to creating a file to document their undertakings.

The students were also accompanied by their teachers Ms. Heather Richardson of Verchilds High School and Ms. Calmin Glasgow of the Washington Archibald High School.

Since their return from the Summit, Huggins and Isles have also made presentations to their respective schools.  Cayon and Sandy Point High School are next in line for school visits.  The two youth ambassadors will also make presentations to the primary schools in the Federation.
