St. Clair "Chico" Guishard |
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (November 1, 2006): Will it be Ticoya Henry? The mother of one who has been singing ever since she knew herself? Or Carissa Liburd who hails from Saddlers and wants to represent for her hometown?
Shinel Wilkins should not be underestimated she has won a Karaoke competition in the past though she was told by one of the commentators that she seemed a bit nervous.
Or how about Kendra Hutton the Newtown resident who no one thought had this much singing talent?
Only time will tell and as the time draws near things are definitely heating up! The showdown for the next Kittitian Superstar will take place this Saturday, November 4, at the Basseterre High School Auditorium.
During the semi-finals Doris Bradshaw and Denville were eliminated. Their amazing singing alone could not have save them this time. The public's votes is what counts throughout semi-finals and they both were the public mobile-user's least favorite.
In 2004 St. Clair "Chico" Guishard, ZIZ Radio Personality and creator of Kittitian Superstar got the concept from American Idol and added Kittitian flair to it.
The purpose of the show is to discover the hidden local talents and to give the singers an opportunity to showcase and express themselves throughout the show. ~~Adz:Right~~
"During my day time shift on the radio, persons would have a chance to call-in and sing over the phone line," he told SKNVibes.com. "It was a way for them to display their talent to other listeners."
He decided to step things up a bit when he added candid Judy Dupont a.k.a. Purple to the mix. Her straightforward and blunt comments toward the singers reminded us of American Idol's Simon Caldwell.
"Purple got involved since 2004 and we didn't know how it would have turned out but responses from the public was good," he said.
For the competition was hosted on the radio with the finals at ZIZ Television Studio. In 2005 Chico decided to increase the show's standards by hosting the semi-finals and finals at the high school's auditorium which has been a sold out seating ever since.
For this year's event the sing off was not done on the radio but on TV which created excitement for locals as they viewed kittitians showcasing their talents.
~~Adz:Left~~ Past winners of Kittitian Superstar are Shakira Wattley of Cayon and Karence De' Costa of the St. Johnson's Village both won convincingly in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
Some of the prizes that can be won are airline tickets to any North American City, laptop from Cable and Wireless with free internet service, cell phones for each finalist, free rides on board the Geronimo boat for one year for the first and second runners- up, gifts from TDC, Horsford's, Caribbanna trading, City Shoe Store, Ocean Terrace Inn, O.D Brisbane and Sons and more.
The show is being judged by Larry Vaughn, Jasmine Clarke-Hazel and Pamela Ward. The commentators are Chico himself along with 'Purple' and Steve Dublin former composer, keyboardist and singer of the Nu Vybes Band.
