BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 6TH 2006 - The Basseterre-based Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) will launch a collection of the lectures by the 10 outstanding regional and international economists delivered during its Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture Series on November 13th.
The series was started in 1996 as a tribute to Sir William Arthur Lewis, Nobel Laureate and a pioneer of development economics, whose portrait appears on the EC one hundred dollar note.
~~Adz:Right~~The ECCB said that the collection which looks at some of the development challenges facing developing countries is entitled "Economic Theory and Development Options for the Caribbean: The Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lectures 1996-2005."
The contributors are: Rex Nettleford; Norman Girvan; Alister McIntyre; Lloyd Best; Kari Polanya Levitt; Marius St Rose; Gerald Meier; Alan Binder; Clive Thomas and Joseph Stiglitz. There is a foreword by Chairman of the ECCB's Monetary Council Dr Ralph Gonsalves and an introduction by the Bank's Governor Sir K Dwight Venner.
Sir Arthur's widow Lady Lewis and their daughter Elizabeth will be special guests at the launch ceremony, where books will be on sale
