BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 13TH 2006 St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says the million-dollar Kittitian Heights Resort, Spa and Golf Course to be built here has the potential to become the model of future Caribbean resort development.
The involvement of the people through community discussion with the developers emphasises the difference in conceptualising and implementing this development, and it sets the tone for good relations between island communities in the environment of this particular resort, said Prime Minister Douglas at the International Media Launch of the US$360 million resort at the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park on Sunday night attended by representatives from the Scottish Herald Magazine and Sunday Herald Magazine; Irish Times; The London Times, Vogue, Tatler, GQ, House and Gardens; Mail on Sunday and Sunday Business Post.
~~Adz:Right~~Dr. Douglas said that the discussion between the developers and the residents of the area where the resort is to be located is an excellent start, and I am sure that the people of this country will join me in wishing Belmont Resorts, Val Kempadoo and all associated with it, every success as it expeditiously now implements and constructs the Kittitian Heights Resort.
He said that the launch of the Kittitian Heights development is one of the most unique tourism projects to be found anywhere in the entire Caribbean.
We have to commend the developers of this project those who have enormous confidence in the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis, and we must applaud their vision to make this project a part of the Whitegate area that brings to the project some of the most stunning scenery, and holds great potential as a tourism development area, said Dr. Douglas.
He said that the Kittitian Heights project which is nestled between the La Valle Development Project to the west and the Rawlins Plantation Inn Development and the Beaumont Park to the east is one of several top quality resort projects taking place on the island, all of which are important to the nation, as it attempts to position itself in a highly competitive market, while being unusual enough to stand out as a special destination, catering to special tastes and preferences in todays travelers.
Prime Minister Douglas said that the project exudes a theme that is strongly Caribbean and it reflects the Federations historical and cultural heritage.
~~Adz:Left~~It speaks to issues of high quality standards, comfort and convenience, and it brings an element of interactivity that is so unusual in most Caribbean resort projects. This kind of project speaks well to the continued development of all our people, and will certainly contribute to the nations thrust to enhance the standard and quality of life of its people, said Dr. Douglas, who reiterated that the Whitegate area in which the Kittitian Heights is going to be located holds significant importance in the future tourism development of St. Kitts and Nevis.
It is steeped in history, steeped in folklore and natural beauty. The area has the potential to transform the economic and social landscape of the villages and people of the area, said Dr. Douglas, the Parliamentary Representative for the area, who encouraged residents to work cooperatively for the continued development of the area.
The development of Whitegate into a top-class resort area is one tangible means by which we are preparing a brighter future for the proud children of this nation, said Dr. Douglas.
He said that like all other developmental projects on the island, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government must ensure that the people stand to gain in the process.
We will continue to keep education and training as crucial elements in transforming the socio-economic order of this our land. We will continue to ensure that the physical and technological infrastructure can support modern business practices, and we will ensure that sound fiscal management contributes significantly to the long-term vibrancy of the economy, Dr. Douglas said.
He said that all nationals are important in shaping the future of St. Kitts and Nevis and as citizens and residents we all have an obligation to be productive, an obligation to be creative, and to become assertive towards building the social and economic frameworks that would secure the future of generations yet unborn.
