The body of Michelle Weekes-Benjamin was found some weeks ago in an unfinished septic tank. |
(Charlestown; Nevis): Ex-patriot Gloria Adams has expressed her disapproval at the gruesome crimes which have been occurring recently in the Federation.
Adams' remarks come in the wake of the recent murder of Michelle Weekes-Benjamin who was found decomposed in a septic tank that was under construction on Rosemary Lane in Basseterre, St. Kitts.
"My birth place is in St. Kitts, I have been abroad for the past thirty one years. I do love my island and always boast about my island to my friends. We all know that crime is on the rise just about everywhere, but for some reason I cannot comprehend such dreadful crimes happening in my little island."
"I know the parents of both the deceased and the criminals; my heart goes out to both families. Theres so much to say, but all I would like to say right now, I hope that justice would be done no matter what position a parent holds and the guys get their just reward and would be taken out of society for ever."
Weekes-Benjamin was reported missing on Monday October 30, when she did not report for work at National Bank. Two days later, her body was discovered in an incomplete septic tank of a building that is under construction at Rosemary Lane. Police reports claim that workers noticed a foul scent emanating from the tank and following investigations, proceeded to alert the authorities.~~adz:Right~~
A team from the Public Works Department was brought in to assist the Police Force and the St. Kitts Nevis Defense Force officers in removing the body from the tank and workers of Jenkins Funeral Home took the swollen and partly decomposed body from the scene.
Forensic Pathologist Dr. Stephen Jones of Barbados conducted an autopsy on Friday, which revealed that Weekes-Benjamin died as a result of "Asphyxia" which is suffocation due to smothering.
The funeral took place on Saturday November 4, in the afternoon at the Zion Moravian Church and the deceased was later laid to rest at the Springfield Cemetery in Basseterre.
