A press conference was held yesterday Wednesday, Nov. 22 at the Ocean Terrace Inn for the official launching ceremony of the Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen.

Digicel Wireless came onboard with the Haynes Smith Youth Club through a two year title sponsorship agreement of EC$60,000.00.

Antonio Maynard, Chairman of the Pageant, said that the principal objective of this pageant is to showcase Caribbean Culture and promote regional integration amongst Caribbean youths, while communicating meaningful social and educational issues through the performing arts.

Kevin Edwards, Market Manager of Digicel St. Kitts-Nevis, said that "Digicel is delighted to be associated with this prestigious pageant and applauds the initiative of the pageant as it is a means of cultivating creative expression amongst the youths as it reinforces the vast talent that is emerging throughout the Caribbean."

He also mentioned that over the years the pageant has continued to evolve and grow and that it is in its 27th staging and is a pan-Caribbean event with 15 contestants who hail from 13 different Caribbean territories.

Digicel also announced that as part of the event on the 29th December, they have confirmed a special appearance of the 2006 Digicel Rising Star Champion Kyron Baptiste of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Kyron will be the featured performer for the pageant along with James P from St. Vincent and comedian Fernando Clark of Trinidad and Tobago.

Donavan White, Marketing Manager of Digicel, said that having their brand linked by name to this event is a testimony to the trust and faith they have in the organizers of the pageant.

"We look forward to the Digicel Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant being the most exciting pageant to date," he said.

Also present at the press conference were St. Kitts representative Ayesha Farier and Mika O'Brien representing Nevis and other sponsors who expressed their pleasure in being associated with the pageant and their hopes that their sponsorship will help uplift the Carnival.
