BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 29TH 2006 (CUOPM) A boost for Information and Communication Technology in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis with the signing of a Letter of Intent with the Republic of China on Taiwan.
St. Kitts and Nevis Minister of State for Information and Technology, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty and Taiwans Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency James C.F. Huang signed the document for the promotion of software infrastructure, such as e-government and the training of human resources in Information Communications Technology.
Minister Carty said the cooperation agreement will assist in the transformation of the economy of the twin-island Federation.
St. Kitts and Nevis has made the decision that one of the areas of focus and an important pillar of the development ~~adz:Right~~of St. Kitts and Nevis is Information Communications Technology, said Mr. Carty during the signing ceremony attended by St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas; Minister of Housing, Agriculture and Co-operatives, Hon. Cedric Liburd; Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Joseph Edmeade; other members of the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation; Taiwans Resident Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Mr. John Liu and Mrs. Liu and representatives of the Republic of China on Taiwan Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Information Communications Technology.
Mr. Carty said ITC is critical to the implementation of the governments strategy and a crucial part of the sustainability would be the training of persons in both the public and private sectors to better serve the nation.
Combined with the above-mentioned hardware infrastructures, this agreement will multiply the effects of development. As such, the sustainable development of the economy and related industries in St. Kitts and Nevis will be assured, said James C.F. Huang, Taiwans Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Noting that Taiwan is renowned for its achievements in Information Communication Technology, Minister Huang said his Asian nation is delighted to provide assistance to St. Kitts and Nevis in developing its own ICT and making the twin-island Federation its first ally in the region to cooperate with Taiwan in this area.
St. Kitts and Nevis has had exchanges in the areas of economic development, culture, education and agriculture.
Under the great leadership of Prime Minister Douglas, St. Kitts and Nevis has been transformed into a modern nation among Caribbean countries and has great tourism potential, said Minister Huang, who pointed out that some of Prime Minister Douglas more important achievements include completion of Port Zante, construction of the Mariott Hotel, the Warner Park Cricket Stadium and the expansion of the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, with which Taiwan lent a helping hand.We can expect a bright future for the tourism industry in St. Kitts and Nevis, thanks to these hardware infrastructures, said the Taiwanese Foreign Minister.
