(Charlestown; Nevis): In wake of their one-year anniversary which was commemorated on Friday, Choice F. M. will tonight launch a new weekly program entitled 'Teen Voices'.
Choice F.M. Radio personality, Carmen Carey Griffin who is also known to the general public as Sister C, explained that the program is a product of Esther Brookes who works extensively with youth through various means of drama.
"Tonight we are launching 'Teen Voices' and it is being hosted by Esther Brookes. Most times we understand that teens do not really have a voice but here is an opportunity for them to have their say," she said. "They can call in to this program and it is from 8 p.m. on a Wednesday evening."
Griffin intimated that the new program is also an effort to reach a wider audience in the community.
"We cater to everyone musically and via our programs. The whole community on a whole is who we cater for. The community is made up of young, old, in between, middle age, everyone, and we need to reach them."
While speaking on the year in retrospect, she explained that year was one of growth.
"It is amazing when you look at radio compared to babies. It takes babies 1-2 years to start talking. We started from one year to where we are now. We just started and we have advanced so much," Griffin said. "We are not so much an organization looking for profits, we are a community station and it is amazing how the community has gravitated to us as a community radio station."
~~adz:right~~"On Friday our anniversary program was so much better than we anticipated. Although we thought that persons would come in and recite poems and sing songs, that did not really happen but the flow throughout the day was extravagant and the phone calls that we - got everybody called in and wished us a Happy Birthday. It started from morning and went right down until the evening even right into the Love Connection program and that starts from 7 p.m. and ends... well when it ends."
She extended her gratitude to the general public who supported them over the year and made their first anniversary the success that it was and encouraged listeners to continue supporting the station.
"It is about how you develop your community, how you show them that you value them and how you meet their needs in the most exciting way. Our programming encourages innovation and experimentation," she said. "It is programming which promotes fair discussion and debate which can lead to resolution of conflicting viewpoints with the staff of the station always appearing to be neutral." |
