Police Press Release

     

     

    On evening of Thursday 30th November 2006, officers of the joint Police and Defence Force patrol unit attempted to arrest Virgil Gumbs of John England Village, St. Peters for whom a warrant of arrest was in existence. During the attempt to arrest Gumbs he escaped. The police later caught up with him and by this time he had armed himself with a knife.

     

     

     

    When the officers attempted to arrest him a second time a member of the security forces was wounded on his hand with a knife which Mr. Gumbs had armed himself with. A weapon was discharged and Mr. Gumbs suffered a wound to his leg. He was taken to the JNF Hospital where he was detained for the wound to his leg.

     

     

     

    In addition to being arrested on the warrant which was in existence for his arrest Virgil Gumbs was charged with the offences of "Resisting Arrest", "Escaping Lawful Custody" and "Battery on a police officer". ~~Adz:Right~~

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    On Thursday 30th November 2006, an autopsy was performed on the body of the late Alex Gilbert formerly of Dieppe Bay by Dr. Stephen Jones forensic pathologist of Barbados. The pathologist stated that in his opinion death was due to hemorrhaging and shock caused by a stab wound to his chest.

     

     

     

     The following persons were arrested and charged on 30th November 2006;

     

    ·         Kishuana Rawlins of Lower Shaw Avenue was charged with the offence of "Larceny" and "Receiving" committed on 21st October 2006.

     

     

     

    ·         Keithley Morton of LaGuerite Village was charged with the offence of "Armed with an offensive weapon" to wit a knife committed on 28th November 2006.

     

     

     

     

     

    The following persons were convicted at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 30th November 2006

     

    ·         Orson Henderson of Conyers who charged with the offences of "Escaping Lawful Custody" "Wounding" and "Aggravated Assault" was sentenced to serve two (2), five (5) and six (6) months imprisonment respectively. He was also sentenced to serve one (1) month imprisonment and for breaking a previous court bond.

     

     

     

    ·         Chad Depusoir of Boyd's Village who was charged with the offences of "Battery" and "Carrying abroad and offensive weapon" was convicted and sentenced to serve two (2) months for each charge.

     

     

     

    ·         Lenroy Browne of The Alley, Sandy Point who was charged with the offence of "Battery" committed on 24th January 2005 was convicted and fined $1,000.00 to be paid in two (2) months or in default to serve two (2) months imprisonment with hard labour.

     

     

     

    ~~Adz:Left~~Also at the said court, Calvert Flemming of Old Road Village, who was charged with the offence of "Indecent Assault" was committed to stand trial at the January 2007 Criminal Assizes.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    On Thursday 30th November 2006, two officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were honored for outstanding work done in the interest of youth development in St. Kitts and Nevis.

     

     

     

    The officers, Constables Matthew McGuire and Laughton Percival were among the persons awarded at the final sitting of the Youth Parliament for 2006.

     

     

     

    McGuire received his award in respect to the work he has done with the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program. Percival was awarded, for the work he has done with the "Operation Future" group.
