Political leader of the opposition People's Action Movement (PAM), Mr. Lindsay Grant, has been found guilty of obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty during an incident in 2004.
The party's lone representative in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, Hon. Shawn Richards, has also been found guilty of obstruction in the same incident.
Magistrate Her Worship, Mrs. Sharon Cummings found Mr. Grant willfully obstructed Inspector Vincent Bridgewater in the course of his duty contrary to Section 36 (2) of the Small Charges Act, Cap. 75.
The Hon. Shawn Richards was also found guilty of obstructing Inspector Vincent Bridgewater in the course of his duties contrary to Section 36 (2) of the Small Charges Act, Cap. 75.
The learned Magistrate imposed a fine of EC$1,000 each on Mr. Grant and Mr.
Richards. Both must pay the fines in one week or serve one month imprisonment.
On the charge of "remaining in a roadway in such a matter so as to cause danger of obstruction to persons driving vehicles on the said road, contrary to Section 62(d) of the vehicles~~Adz:Right~~ and Road Traffic Act, Cap 270,"
Magistrate Cummings found the Hon. Shawn Richards guilty, but reprimanded and discharged him.
Charges brought by the police against another PAM official, Mr. Chesley Hamilton were dropped.
Senior Crown Counsel, Ms. Simone Bullen prosecuted the police matter.
