    Charlestown Nevis (December 7, 2006)
Officials of the Ministry of Public Works in the Nevis Island Administration and Senior Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSKNPF), Nevis Division, on Wednesday 6, paid a follow up visit to the construction site at the Gingerland Police Station.

Junior Minister of Works, the Hon. Carlisle Powell, who led the official party, told the Government Press that they were assessing the final phase of construction with an effort to hand over the facility to the officers.

He commended the contractor for the amount of work completed since he last visited the station.  He said, The contractor has done a tremendous amount of work except for the installation of the lights and some minor works; we are pretty close to the end.
I am happy to say that the police in Nevis will be getting a Christmas present and Im hoping that they .~~Adz:Right~~ will be here before Christmas.  So on Christmas morning, they would wake up in a new police station in Gingerland and that they will be able to continue their fine tradition of service to the people not only of Gingerland but the people of Nevis, he added.
Minister Powell was accompanied by his Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ernie Stapleton, Director of Public Works, Mr. Denzil Stanley and Engineer Mr. Glenville Bowrin.  The party toured the entire structure.
Speaking to the government press, officer in charge of the Gingerland District, Sergeant Steven Hector said that the quality of the service being provided by the police officers will improved tremendously.

What I can say to the public is that you can expect an improve degree of service that the police will officer when we move into this building.  I think the environment is now conducive to higher productivity and more work in the district.  We are still looking for that community policing whereby the public can interact with the police officers.  They can come and visit and we can do our policing duty more in a professional manner, he said.

Meanwhile, Minister Powell pointed out that the Ministry was in the process of fencing the compound. He noted, We have also started the procedure of getting an estimate for fencing the facility.  It would be ashamed to have such a lovely building opens to the general public as it is at present.
Not that we are keeping people away from visiting but we want to secure what we have and of course the gates will still be open for members of the public to come in and visit the police, he said.  The station is expected to be completed within two weeks.
