CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 12, 2006) -- The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) announced that it would give assistance to fire victim Mrs. Eunice Cozier of Ramsbury in the aftermath of an afternoon fire which gutted the wooden home she had occupied with her two sons.
Following a visit to scene on Friday December 09, 2006, Minister of Social Affairs the Hon Hensley Daniel accompanied by Area Representative and Minister responsible for housing the Hon. Robelto Hector and Legal Advisor Mr. Patrice Nisbett, Mr. Daniel announced that the Ministry of Social Affairs would ensure that the children's needs were addressed, They would include clothing, food and school books and that the family's housing needs.
"The process will work like this: the staff in the Ministry of Social Development will make the investigations, assess the needs of the family, prioritise those needs and inform the Ministry through the Permanent Secretary [then] to myself and we will address the matter at the Cabinet level," he said.

The Minister also took the opportunity to canvas assistance from the community in an effort to speedily rehabilitate the family who had been accommodated with a family member elsewhere in the area since they had been left homeless.
Meantime, Mr. Hector said like a previous fire victim who originated from Charlestown but resided in Cotton Ground, Mrs. Cozier would be assisted in the area of housing and her application for a low income house in Ramsbury would be given priority.
"It is a sad and tragic loss for a young lady of Charlestown. I cannot begin to think what Eunice is feeling at this moment because there has been a total loss. ~~Adz:Right~~
"As the representative and as the one responsible for the Cooperation, we will seek to assist Eunice in the best way that we can. There are some temporary measures that as a government we would take care of but from the Cooperation's stand point we would work speedily to find housing for Eunice and her two sons," he said.
Police investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing but according to a Police source, the incident is being treated as arson.
