The Electricity and Water Services Departments’ installation and full activation of a new billing system should be complete by June or July 2004.

This is according to Systems Manager Mrs. Eurta Chiverton who noted that the new fully computerized system is being phased in and is certain to make the billing system more efficient and speedy. She explained that very soon the electricity and water billing systems will be linked. Whereas previously there would be two separate accounts for one customer, now there will be one account with the two services attached.

Mrs. Chiverton also explained that in order to facilitate merging the two systems, the billing centre has to establish which water and electricity services are being provided to the same address. Mrs. Chiverton further noted that whereas the billing records should identify the owner of the household, customers can request that the bill be mailed in the name of another individual.

The Systems Manager then invited customers to bring in specific documentation in order to update their personal billing information. Specifically, customers are asked to bring to the Electricity Department on Central Street a photo ID, recent electricity and water bills, where possible the electricity and water metre numbers, and if the owner of the property– a document to show ownership.

Mrs. Chiverton added that when the bills are being paid by renters, instead of bringing a document of ownership, the renter will have to submit the property owner/landlord’s name and contact number. She said this will enable the billing centre to contact the owner of the property in order to verify the information.
