St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has joined regional leaders in extending congratulations to St. Lucia's new Prime Minister, the Right Hon. John Compton.

"The Government and People of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis join me in extending heartfelt congratulations on the victory of the United Workers Party in the recent polls," said Dr. Douglas in his letter of congratulations.

Prime Minister Douglas told Sir John, who was sworn in on Friday as Prime Minister by Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, that the success of his campaign is evidence of the functionality of St. Lucia's multi-party democracy and the confidence that the St. Lucian electorate holds in his ability to lead his Party and indeed the nation into a new dimension of social and economic prosperity.

"Your legacy speaks for itself.  Your mark has been written indelibly on the history of the regional integration movement where you have been a major force for progress and for unity," said Prime Minister Douglas, who told Sir John that the "prestigious Order of the Caribbean Community Award has declared you "the quintessential Caribbean man," and on a national level your political evolution has progressed in tandem with St. Lucia's development where as Chief Minister, Premier, and then Prime Minister you led your country from the throes of Colonialism through to Independence and into Modernity."~~Adz:Right~~

"As a regional stalwart, I anticipate working side by side with you as we seek to advance the vision and I am confident that your unswerving commitment to regional integration, rapprochement and development will continue to add stature, depth and stability to every undertaking," said Dr. Douglas, who is also Chairman of the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government.
