The squad has advanced to the final eight of the CONCACAF division. They will compete against Mexico, Costa Rico and Jamaica to earn the right to the final two spots in this division. The games will be played in Mexico in February. The winners will go on to the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be played in June in Canada.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association has organized a press conference on Thursday to announce the launch of the fundraising effort. The conference room of the Foundation for National Development is the venue for the event which begins at 2:30 p.m. The Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture has pledged $50,000.00 to the cause and other individuals and businesses have also contributed.
The national team needs to raise about $300,000.00 to cover practices, travel and accommodation and persons are encouraged to lend support where possible. Accounts have been setup at National Bank and the Royal Bank of Canada for persons to support this initiative.
A football official noted that the local team has never advanced this far in the competition and implored the public to share this experience and help the squad to be prepared for the intense competition that lies ahead.
