The needy children of Nevis will have a bountiful Christmas this year after the H.O.P.E. youth group made a monetary donation in the sum of EC$500 to the Charlestown Change Centre for Abused Persons on Saturday morning.

On hand to make the much-needed donation were Rohan Isles, president, who made the Presentation on behalf of HOPE, Danielle Martin and Vincia Hebert secretary of the group.

The donation will help to subsidize the cost of the institution's 11th Annual Christmas Party for Less Fortunate Children.  According to Public Relations Officer, Ron Daniel the H.O.P.E. youth group intends for the donation to serve as motivation for less fortunate youth to excel.

"We were formed with the sole intention to help our people excel.  In doing so, we wish to focus on the more vulnerable groups within our society," he said.  "We called Reverend James to find out how we could assist the Change Centre for Abused Persons. She informed us that there was an annual Christmas Party for some of the children from the lower socioeconomic bracket that we could contribute to and we immediately jumped at the opportunity to help these people among us."~~Adz:Right~~

Daniel said that they believe that Christmas is a time for all to be happy and that they made this contribution to ensure that those without the finer things in life will not be without Christmas cheer around Christmas.

"This contribution is a small step in H.O.P.E. fulfilling its mandate to be the humanitarian group that we were set up to be," he said.  "We want to make our mark as a community-based organization that will always be on the move when it comes to helping our people excel."

Also sharing these sentiments was Reverend Salome James, Executive Director of the Change Centre for Abused persons who intimated her desire that the gift would inoculate a culture of giving within young people.

"The donation which we are very grateful for went towards the children's Christmas party that will be held on Thursday," she said.  "We usually have a party every year for needy children and the funds will help to purchase gifts for less fortunate children."

She continued: "I sincerely feel that the H.O.P.E. youth group is a valuable asset to society in that when you start giving when you are young, you develop into a culture of giving when you get older and that brings hope to people.  It is good to help and I am glad that there are still young people who are not spending every thing on themselves but assisting other people."
