Basseterre, St. Kitts (December 28, 2006): Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas wished the six contestants of the National Carnival Queen Pageant best wishes during a cocktail reception on Wednesday evening.
The Frigate Bay Beach Hotel provided the perfect setting for the reception which was also attended by Minister of State Hon. Richard Skerritt and other government officials as well as representatives from the Carnival committee and other agencies.
The beauties will take center stage tonight at Carnival Village when they vie for the title of National Queen for the Carnival 2006-2007. The show has a start time of 8:00 p.m. ~~Adz:Right~~
This year's pageant is eagerly anticipated. Many expect it to continue the positive momentum of the Carnival season which has already drawn praise from spectators and participants.
Carnival Chairman Gus Williams expressed pleasure with the public support for the annual festival. He said that hotels are booked out as record numbers of revelers from the United States, United Kingdom and Europe are patronizing the shows and taking in the cultural performances. The chairman noted that his committee will work on creating additional opportunities so that the financial benefits of carnival would trickle down to more persons involved in the tourism and festival industry
