“GOLDEN PRINCESS” INAUGURATES SUMMER VISITS TO ST. KITTS |
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (MAY 10TH 2004) – Another “Princess” is coming to St. Kitts.
The 109,000-gross tons “Golden Princess,” docks at Port Zante in Basseterre on Tuesday at the start of a Caribbean Summer visit to St. Kitts.
General Manager of local cruise ship agents, Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd, Mr. Denzil V. Crooke, said the US$464 million “Golden Princess” of Princess Cruise Lines will visit St. Kitts every two weeks until October 2004.
An Inaugural Welcome Ceremony and Luncheon is planned on board the “Golden Princess” on Tuesday.
The three-year-old “Golden Princess,” has a capacity of 3,100 passengers and a crew of 1,150 comprising 18 nationalities.
“Princess’ bid to become a major Caribbean player kicked off last month with the launch of “Caribbean Princess” from Port Everglades and with the “Golden Princess” operating out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, make the love-boat lines’ first two-ship Caribbean summer,” said Crooke in an interview with the Communication’s Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office.
He noted that Princess Cruises, which is now owned by Carnival Corporation, is building up to a six vessel winter deployment in the Caribbean, its biggest ever and a 75 percent increase over last year.
Mr. Crooke added that when “Caribbean Princess 2” arrives in 2006, the line will be positioning about 50 percent of its total capacity in the Caribbean.
Over the past several years, St. Kitts has hosted the “Dawn Princess” and the “Ocean Princess.”
Sister ship to the Grand Princess, the Golden Princess is truly a “city at sea” and offers a wide array of amenities and attractions including three different showrooms which offer Broadway, Las Vegas and cabaret productions.
Three main dining rooms are complemented by alternative eateries like Sabatini's Trattoria, The Painted Desert and a ‘round-the-clock’ grill.
When it comes to activities, no one is left out. Golf simulators, a virtual reality area, a fine arts gallery, computer and writing rooms, a gym and spa all offer the recreation -- or relaxation -- you're looking for.
Kids and teens have their own hangouts with TVs, video games and age-appropriate activities.
There are four pools or nine whirlpools for a workout swim or to just take in some rays. When the sun sets, one can head to the 13,500-square-foot casino, one of the 17 lounges or Skywalker's Nightclub for dancing 15 decks above the sea.
There are more than 700 staterooms which feature private balconies.
