BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (MAY 10TH 2004) – Federal Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Dwyer Astaphan said the arrival of the 747 British Airways Jumbo jet at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on Saturday, raises St. Kitts and Nevis “as a high quality destination” and disclosed negotiations were in process for two additional carriers out of the British market.
“Visitors and locals coming out of the Customs Hall, seeing individuals with signs representing the Marriott and the Four Seasons in a small destination certainly sends a signal that this is a quality destination and a destination on the move,” said Astaphan in an interview with the Communications Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister.
He said the arrival of the British Airways 747, gives an opportunity to the captains and the crews

to tell their principals in the company of the quality of the runway, the other airport facilities and services available at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Tourism Minister had high praise for the stakeholders. “BA brought in 276 passengers at 6 ‘o’ clock with the plane unloading its passengers and by 6:20 all of the passengers were cleared by immigration and I want to thank the Immigration Officers for doing a tremendous job.
It did not take much longer to clear the passengers through Customs and the Customs officers, the dispatchers, the taxi men and women and the ground handling staff, all deserve to be complimented,” said Minister Astaphan.
He said BA’s arrival at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport on Saturday displayed “efficiency in St. Kitts.”

Tourism Minister Astaphan noted additional international airlift with PAN AM from Fort Lauderdale, Miami starts in June and will formally announce that American Airlines will begin direct service to St. Kitts from Miami.
“There is going to be more traffic, more possibilities for hoteliers in St. Kitts and Nevis to draw more business into the country on a year-round basis,” said Astaphan.
