Basseterre, St. Kitts (January 18, 2007) Digicel and Marshalls presented cheques totaling $62,740.00 and shared equally to two charities in the Federation, Ades Place on St. Kitts and The Change Center on Nevis, at a brief ceremony held at Digicel House on Thursday.
On December 10, 2006, Digicel and Marshalls collaborated and hosted a fundraising event to commemorate the 10th Anniversary since the opening of Marshalls and the 1st Anniversary of Digicel in St. Kitts & Nevis. The two (2) charities were the beneficiaries of money raised in an open auction at the event on December 10, at which scores of Kittitians and Nevisians dug deep into their pockets to support the worthy cause.
Both charities provide a well needed service to the people of the Federation, St. Kitts-based Ades Place, is an NGO geared at improving living conditions for young adults with disabilities, and Nevis-based The Change Center, is an NGO geared at providing counseling, case management, and referral services to persons who are victims of sexual emotional or physical abuse.
Pat Daley Executive Director and Salome James Executive Director accepted the two $31,370.00 cheques on behalf of Ades Place and The Change Center respectively. Speaking at the ceremony, Digicels Market Manager, Donovan White reiterated Digicels commitment to a long-term investment in St. Kitts & Nevis. The service that both these organizations provide to the Federation is invaluable to the well being of the disabled and the disadvantaged, and it is an honor for Digicel to be associated with their hard work and commitment to provide for those less fortunate in our Society, today we pledge our commitment to continue our support of both NGO in the form of cash and kind.
Special thanks must go to Barbara Kassab, the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, I.C. Jewelers, Digicel Jamaica who donated the season tickets for the Air Jamaica Jazz Festival and Marshalls Restaurant; without their support, the fundraising exercise may not have attracted the immense support that it has. White continued.
