(L-R) Hon. Hensley Daniel Minister of Youth, Mr Arthur Anslyn, Mr. Jorn Eivik, Mr. Rawlinson Isaac, Mr. Stein Hansen, Mr. Alfred Tyson.
    CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 22, 2007) --
Premier of Nevis the Hon. Joseph Parry urged four Nevisian students bound for studies in Norway to be good ambassadors for their homeland, to study well and become a role model for Nevisians on their return.
Mr Parry made the appeal at a brief ceremony held at Carino Hamilton Development Co. Ltd. on Thursday January 18, 2007 to mark the January 23 departure of Ms. Oslyn Smith of Main Street; Ms. Ju-vaun Parry and Mr. Valon Glasgow of Bath Village and Mr. Alfred Tyson of Gingerland.
The four students were awarded scholarships by the Nevis based Company to pursue six months of study in various disciplines at the Rygjaboe College near Stavanger, the oil capital of Norway. Mr. Tyson and Mr. Glasgow will study fishing while Ms Parry will study waiterssing and Ms. Smith cooking.
We want you to be good ambassadors of Nevis, we want you to go and study hard and do well and come back and be able to be a role model for the people of Nevis. So you are carrying a very heavy weight on your shoulders, great responsibility today and for the next few months. We expect you to do well, we know you will do well, we are behind and we are supporting you, he said.
According to Mr. Parry, Carino Nevis Ltd had indicated its willingness to provide training to Nevisians in a number of areas as a second component to the development work they had been involved in at Hamilton Estate and he was pleased to see the promise come to fruition.
He thanked the company for the work it had been engaged in on Nevis and also for the training opportunities it had offered to Nevisians and said the Nevis Island Administration looked forward to a continued and growing relationship with Carino.
Meantime, Minister with responsibility for Youth the Hon. Hensley Daniel who was also present, thanked Carino for the training assistance particularly as it related to the young people of Nevis.
He said the Administration had recognised that the best way to provide for people and to put money in their pockets was to equip them with the means necessary to gain employment.
According to Mr. Daniel, the NIA regarded the development of people as a most important issue since one could have beautiful buildings but in the absence of trained people problems would be created.
The Youth Minister urged the students to do well and said their success would act as a spring board for other students to be selected to pursue studies in Norway as well.
I want to say to them as the first batch you dont ~~adz:Right~~have a second chance to make a first impression so your first impression on the institution in Norway is very important. If you go there and work hard and work well they will send some more people and that is exactly what we want. We want you to be shining stars and they could always refer to you so that we could pack up some more, he said.
Mr. Jorn Eivik Managing Director of Carino Hamilton Development Co. Ltd. noted that his company was pleased to provide the training for the people of Nevis and explained that it had taken them a year and a half to get the second component of the project off the ground.
He thanked the NIA for the opportunity to work with them and gave his assurance that there would be more forthcoming from the company to the people of Nevis and added that the company was in Nevis for the long haul.
He described Nevis as a beautiful island and his company would do all it could to assist with its future development.
Carino Board Member Mr. Arthur Anslyn who was also present explained that Mr Tyson had already completed a course of studies in Norway and this would be his second trip.
He said he had personally visited the institution where the students would study and he too gave his assurance that they would be well cared for and would be in a safe but different environment.
He described the training programme being offered by Carino as one which would provide benefits for the people of Nevis because the students would be able to pass on their knowledge to others on their return home.
Also present at the brief ceremony were Mrs. Christine Springette Advisor to the Ministry of Education, Mr. Llewellyn Parris Advisor to the Premiers Ministry and Mr. Stein Hansen a former tutor at the Rygjaboe College now project Coordinator for Carino Project International.
