    --
Public Works Department in the Nevis Island Administration has come in for high commendation for the improvement programme it is currently executing in the various schools on the island.

Minister of Physical Planning, Infrastructural Development, Natural Resources and the Environment, Communications and Works, Public Utilities and Posts, the Hon Mr A. Michael Perkins, singled out for praise work undertaken at the Combermere Primary School, and ongoing work at the St. Thomas’ Primary School.

“Over the recent Easter Vacation the Public Works Department continued to carry out various works on many of the schools on the island,” reported Mr Perkins. “The schools include the Gingerland Secondary School, the St. Thomas’ Primary School and the Combermere Primary School.”

At the Combermere Primary School, the Public Works Department undertook significant upgrading work that included the correction to the drainage problem in and around the school compound and did the actual paving of the courtyard of the school.

“I am sure the students and teachers were quite pleased on their return to school after the Easter break when they recognised that the courtyard was completely paved and this was carried out by the Public Works Department,” observed the Minister. “I wish to commend the PWD on the fine job they have done there.”

With respect to work being carried out which includes fencing of the entire school and the expansion of the play field to the west at the St. Thomas’ Primary, Minister Perkins said that it had been planned sometime ago and is currently underway with a completion timeframe of another two weeks.

He added that the work at the St. Thomas’ School, which is off the busy Island Main Road, also includes one other feature which is a lay-by or pull-off area at the front of the school so that the bus drivers and the parents dropping off and picking up their kids can have a safer way of doing so.

“Again I must compliment the Public Works team for the fine job that they are doing at the St. Thomas’ Primary School and all the other schools on island,” concluded Mr Perkins.
