A Toronto-area man is in jail on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts and another is being sought for questioning after a bomb threat was made against a Skyservice jet, allegedly to delay it so the two men wouldn't miss the flight.

The plane, which was travelling from St. Kitts to Toronto via Antigua with 200 passengers, was delayed for three hours on Monday on the runway of the Robert Bradshaw International Airport as dogs and dozens of cops searched for explosives, Royal St. Kitts and Nevis police said yesterday. ~~adz:Right~~

"It took a lot of time to clear and search the entire aircraft," St. Kitts police commissioner Robert Jeffers said. "Eight different agencies were involved in this emergency."

Markus Smith, of Toronto, was slated to appear before a magistrate court in Basseterre yesterday. He is facing a $1,000 fine or a jail term, Jeffers said, but will likely be deported from the island.

Another man, identified as Imitaz Khan, of Toronto, who was travelling with Smith and left the island on another flight, is sought for questioning.

The RCMP will be asked to interview Khan and inspect his belongings when he returns to Canada, Jeffers said.
