    Sunday 4th February 2007, saw the inaugural "Clive Benjamin 10K Run" starting at Cayon Village and ending at the last round-a-bout at Frigate Bay. The race which began at Sgt Benjamin's home village saw participants from the Police Force, Her Majesty's Prison, Defence Force, Ross University, High School Students, and many others. Approximately twenty (20) Primary School students also participated in the race with their leg starting at the Sugars Complex on the Frigate Bay Road.

     

     

     

    There were approximately forty (45) registered participants in the adult category and at the conclusion of the race participants were awarded trophies by various age and gender categories.

     

     

     

    Police Constable Otis Stevens took first place overall in the men's category, having completed the run in a time of forty-four (44) minutes and twenty (20) seconds, while Christine Touna who represented the Ross University finished first in the female category.

     


    The event was organized by the Police Sports Club in collaboration with the sponsorship of Cable and Wireless.

    At the Basseterre High Court on Monday 5th February 2007, the case of the DPP vs Stanley Warde of Harris' Village who was charged with the offence of "Burglary" concluded. The jury deliberated and brought back a guilty verdict and Warde was subsequently sentenced to serve five (5) years imprisonment with hard labour.

     

     

     

    The following persons were convicted at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday 5th February 2007;

     

     

     

    ·         Ezrette Henville and a (15) fifteen-year-old juvenile both of Caunt Street, Newtown who were charged with the offence of "Battery" committed on 26th September 2006 were convicted for the said offence. Henville was sentenced to serve one (1) month imprisonment with hard labour. The juvenile was placed on probation in the sum of $1000.00 for a period of twelve (12) months, to keep the peace and be of good behaviour or in default to receive ten (10) strokes.~~adz:Right~~   

     

     

     
    A male juvenile of the John England Village area who was charged with the offence of "Wounding" committed on 11th November 2006 was convicted of the said offence. His father was ordered to pay compensation in the sum of $1,500.00 to be paid in three (3) months or in default to serve one (1) month imprisonment. However the conviction would be expunged if the compensation is paid.

     

     

     

        ·         Trevor Hector of Sprott Street, Basseterre who was charged with the offence of "Larceny" committed on 1st February 2007 was sentenced to serve ninety (90) days imprisonment with hard labour.

     

     

     

    ·         Deshawn Gumbs of Parrays Estate who was charged with the offences of "Indecent Language" and "Refusing to give his name" when he was lawfully required to do so, committed on 23rd November 2006 was convicted and fined $250.00 on each charge to be paid in two (2) months or in default to serve three (3) months imprisonment with hard labour.
