Community members say Sutton's death will leave gaping void in Music Sector

Michael Herald Sutton affectionately known as Maestro died at age 41.
(Charlestown; Nevis): On Saturday afternoon Education Official with responsibility for music in schools, Michael Herald Sutton affectionately known as 'Maestro' of Butlers Village perished at the age of 41 years.

An autopsy performed on Monday by Forensic Pathologist from Barbados, Dr. Stephen Jones revealed that death was due to severe hypertensive heart disease with sudden cardiac arrest.

Sutton was well-known in the community for his musical talent as a pianist as he played at many schools and churches such as the Butlers Seventh Day Adventist Church which he attended regularly and for which he was the sole organ player.

It was there that he met many who regarded him as a master of the art of music such as fellow church member, Kelso Clarke, who warmly remembered him as 'a man who would go to any length to help another'. ~~adz:Right~~

"I think that what happened is really sad because he was a really nice guy and to me he died so suddenly.  He was a really nice guy who liked to make people laugh and would go all out for you when things are bad.  He had a passion for music and he has inspired many people in the community.  He always made time for people and was very dependable.  He had a real passion for God and I trust that he has gone to a better place," said Clarke.

Also deeply affected by Sutton's sudden death was fellow workmate, Lanny Dore, (who also works within the music sector of the Department of Education) who described Sutton as his 'brother and best friend'.

'I loved him like my own brother. The supervisor/worker relationship that existed between us was never regarded.  He was the Coordinator of the music sector at the Education Department but he wasn't the kind of a person to throw his weight around and you would never know who he was.  He worked with everybody and was there for everybody, especially me," Dore said deeply.

He was warmly described by many in the community as a master of the art of music and many say that his passing will leave a void in the music sector in Nevis.

Sutton started playing the piano in his early years when he played the piano at the Gingerland Secondary School at morning assembly.

His musical talent was inherited from his father, Cecil Sutton who is currently a musician and is also an organist at the Butlers Seventh Day Church of God.  Both father and son have represented various community organizations in the field of music.

The deceased Sutton was well-versed in musical instruments ranging from the recorder to the piano.

He introduced the teaching of the recorder in primary schools in Nevis and he also taught theory for adults and children for a number of years.  Many say that his passing will leave a gaping void in the community in the field of music as he had an acute ear for music which is rare to find.
