Police Press Release

    At the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday 19th February 2007, the following persons were convicted


    " Tyrone Morton of Upper Thibou Avenue who was charged with the offences of 'Possession of a Controlled Drug' and 'Possession with intent to Supply a Controlled Drug' to wit cannabis, committed on 10th June 2006 was convicted of both charges. On the first charge he was fined $3,000.00 to be paid in three (3) months or in default to serve six (6) months imprisonment with hard labour and on the second charge he was convicted and cautioned. 


    " Mervin Young of Upper Market Street who was charged with the offence of 'Threatening Language' committed on 21st August 2006 was convicted and sentenced to serve one (1) month imprisonment with hard labour. He was also convicted of the offence of 'Battery' committed on 29th November 2006, and was sentenced to serve two (2) months imprisonment with hard labour, with both sentences to run consecutively. ~~adz:Right~~


    " Justin Henry alias 'Tractor' of Hermitage Village, Cayon who was charged with the offence of 'Disorderly Conduct' was convicted and fined $500.00 to be paid in two (2) weeks or in default to serve (1) month imprisonment. 


    " Deshawn Nisbett of Lower Stone Castle, Tabernacle, who was charged with the offence of 'Larceny' and 'Defacing a building' committed on 8th February 2007, was reprimanded and discharged on the first charge while sentence was deferred on the second charge. 


    " Derrick Roland of Dorset Village who was charged with the offences of 'Resisting Arrest', 'Battery on a Police Officer' and 'Carrying abroad an offensive weapon' to wit a matchete, committed at Shadwell on 11th April 2006 was convicted of three charges. ~~adz:Right~~


    He was sentenced to serve twelve (12) months imprisonment with hard labour, on each of the first two charges and convicted and cautioned on the third charge. He was also charged with the offences of 'Armed with an offensive weapon' and making use of 'Threatening Language' and 'Insulting Language' committed on 10th April 2006 at Shadwell. 

    He was subsequently sentenced to serve three (3) months imprisonment with hard labour on the first charge, and one (1) month imprisonment on each of the latter two charges with all of the sentences to run consecutively. 


    " A fifteen-year-old male and seventeen-year-old male both of the Newtown area, were convicted of the offence 'Wounding with Intent' committed on 22nd September 2006. The (15) fifteen-year-old was ordered to receive ten strokes while the (17) seventeen-year-old was sentenced to serve three (3) months imprisonment. 

    They were both ordered to pay compensation in the sum of $1500.00 each, to be paid in six (6) months or in default they will be sentenced to serve two (2) months and three (3) months imprisonment respectively. ~~adz:Right~~


    At the Sandy Point Magistrate Court on 19th February 2007, Chino Evans of Farms Site, Sandy Point who was charged with the offence of 'Larceny' committed between 26th and 27th January 2007, was convicted and placed on a bond in the sum of $1000.00 for a period of one (1) year or in default to serve two (2) months imprisonment. 

    At the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Tuesday 20th February 2007, Michael Anthony Morton of England was convicted of three (3) separate charges committed on 18th February 2007. He was charged with the offences of 'Refusing to check with the Immigration on arrival in the Federation', as well as making use of 'Indecent Language' and 'Insulting Language'. 

    He pleaded guilty to all of the charges and was convicted and fined $500.00 on each charge totaling $1,500.00, to be paid forthwith. The sum was paid and Mr. Morton was subsequently released into the custody of his wife.
