Havana, Mar 5 (Prensa Latina) Prime Minister Denzil Douglas of Saint Kitts and Nevis, on an official visit to Cuba, requested the assistance of the Cuban people and government Monday, particularly in matters of urban agriculture.

Douglas said his meeting with Agriculture Minister Maria del Carmen Perez Hernandez was "very productive," and explained that his nation is in a period of transition agriculturally after "globalization difficulties forced us to stop 350 years of sugar production."

Noting the now elevated number of unemployed in his nation, particularly young people and single mothers, the prime minister was interested in Cuba s experience in the sugar industry beginning in 1993 during the economic crisis.

He highlighted Cuba s success in agricultural programs, such as in the cities, one of which he visited today in Havana s municipality of Playa.~~adz:Right~~

Cuba and St. Kitts and Nevis have agreed that Cuban experts will go and offer their experience and know-how, he said.

The prime minister met this Saturday with First Vice President aul Castro, visited an agricultural cooperative in Havana Province and a nursing school, where young people from his country are studying.

Tomorrow the prime minister will conclude his five-day visit, which has strengthened the ties of friendship and cooperation Havana and Basseterre have maintained since 1995.
