    Cricket Fever?

    By Claudia Liburd
    Nevis Reporter

With the recent commencement of ICC World Cup cricket in the region, Sknvibes.com hit the streets to ask you:

How do you think that ICC World Cup Cricket will affect the Federation? ~~adz:Right~~

    Andre Jeffers
"I think that it is quite an exciting thing to hear that ICC World Cup cricket will be played in the Federation and I think that it is a good venture.  I also believe that it has many advantages for the region in that it will bring in a lot of revenue and it will bring exposure to St. Kitts and Nevis and the Federation and I also believe that it will also give the people of St. Kitts and Nevis a chance to display their different talents and craft- making and even their methods of food preparation and other aspects of their heritage and culture.  I also think that it pushed us to upgrade our facilities because over the past years we have had poor conditions to play cricket under.  I am glad that the facilities have been upgraded so that the players can be more comfortable and more relaxed when they go out to play at the different sporting activities."
    Andre Jeffers

                                    Marcy Jagdeo
"I think that the ICC World Cup will definitely benefit the Caribbean in general.  It will help all the countries of the world to see that the Caribbean is not just an island-paradise and it has so much more to offer.  It will boost our economy and then more people will visit and that will build up the tourism sector in places like Nevis. A lot of people do not know where Nevis is and so a lot more people will know about us and will want to visit. It will definitely be beneficial to the people of the Federation."
    Marcy Jagdeo

"I think the ICC World Cup will be positive all the way.  I do not see anything negative coming out of it because it will bring a lot of visitors and so there will be a lot of financial benefits and after that we may be getting individuals coming in to invest and take it from there."
    Clinton Swasnston
    Kirt Boddie

"It will boost the Tourism sector and we will acquire more money from tourists as more businesses will get more products sold. On a whole it will boost the economy and benefit the tourism sector.  I think that it was a good idea for the authorities to upgrade the tourism sector so that we could host something of this magnitude because we are small but we do have talent and beauty in our island."
    Kirt Boddie

    Ezzard Charles
"I am hoping that the World Cup cricket will have that 'look forward to' spin-off in the tourist sector.  The spin-off may not be realized immediately but in the long term those who came would see that the place is a tourist attraction and because of their first impression they would return and pass on the information to other people as they go along.  So conseqeuntly in the long term the country will benefit from it."
    Ezzard Charles

"I am a selfish person and I feel that a lot of things have been put into place for St. Kitts and I am not seeing anything done over here.  For me as a Nevisian, I feel that we are a Federation and we need to know exactly what is going to be done for Nevis.  We have musicians and craftsmen over here and a lot of other local talent that needs to be displayed.  I think that we need a Nevis representative to come forward to the people of Nevis and let us know what is going on and how we are going to benefit.  I am a musician and there is nothing that would please me more than to see me and the guys being displayed on an international arena during the World Cup and that brings me back to my original point of being selfish. I find that everyone is only gravitating toward one section and that is St. Kitts and I would like to see a lot more focus being placed on Nevis."
