Bid Committee Chairman Charles Wilkin reviews document.
Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 08, 2004):
Members of the St. Kitts and Nevis 2007 Cricket World Cup Bid Committee continue to hold intense discussions, to ensure that the Federation is prepared if its bid to host Cricket World Cup matches is successful.

The recent round of meetings took place against the backdrop of the upcoming visit by the venue assessment team for the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. Committee chair Charles Wilkin explained the 12-member team is journeying to each bidding country to assess the capability of the islands to stage the event.

The group is expected to arrive Wednesday (tomorrow) evening. They are slated to tour Warner Park and the Conaree Playing Field which - after renovation - will be the staging ground for matches. Discussions will also be held with the bid committee - where the plans for the upgraded facilities and other related issues will be reviewed.

Chairman Wilkin said he is satisfied with the developments leading up to the May 6 bid and the continuing efforts of the committee.

“We believe that we’ve presented a good bid,” he said noting the difficulty of determining the chances of success due to the unavailability of information from the other bidding parties.  “We are preparing ourselves ... with extensive preparatory sessions so that we can answer any questions that may be asked of us.”

The work of the local bid committee as well as the cooperation by public and private sector agencies have helped to raise the optimism of citizens who are looking forward to witness the 2007 event. This sentiment was reflected by the Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin who said she remains hopeful.

The cultural background of the populace which for generations has been fervent cricket lovers, is one of the many intangibles which the minister believes will help to tip the scales in the country’s favour.
