Rotary Club of Liamuiga (St. Kitts) installs new Executive

A new executive has been installed to carry out the plans and programmes of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga (St. Kitts) for the Rotary year 2004/2005.  The Installation Dinner took place at the Ocean Terrace Inn on Saturday 5th June 2004.  President Paulette Warner, who will be supported by Vice President -Clive Bacchus, Secretary - Laverne Caines and Treasurer Maritza Bowry, will lead the new executive.

Among the highlights of the evening was a Presentation of Rotarian of the Year, which was awarded to Dr Ismay Taylor, and the Incoming President’s report by Mrs Paulette Warner.

Addressing the gathering as the Featured Speaker, Mrs Hazel Ross Robinson spoke on the relevance of NGO in small island states.  She stated that NGOs have a role to shape the nation.  She added, “the most precious gift that NGO’s can bestow on young people is to help them to connect the dots between what is happening in the community and in the nation.”  Citing a concern for the current upsurge in teen violence, she challenged the members of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga to play a role in events that don’t necessarily affect them.  “When troubling situations arise NGOs must be the first to propose solutions.”

On the lighter side of the evening three door prizes were raffled, with the lucky winners receiving a gift basket, trip on the Scenic Railway and a gift certificate.  The community service raffle which had at its main prize a cruise for two was also drawn, and the names of the winners announced.

The Club wishes to place on record, its deepest appreciation to the corporate community, which provided the prizes for both the door prizes and the community service raffle.
