Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 14, 2004): Several local officials have stated their optimism that St. Kitts and Nevis will share in the historic Cricket World Cup 2007 to be hosted by the West Indies Cricket Board.

Minister with responsibility for sport Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin told SKNIS that the venue assessment team for the ICC event was impressed with the proposals put forward in the St. Kitts and Nevis bid. She attributed this and other evidence to support her hopefulness.

If they were impacted, as I believe they were, by what they saw in the promotional videos and their visit to the sporting facilities, “I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that we are on the way to hosting games in 2007,” she said.

The minister outlined her gratitude to the local bid committee and the residents of the Federation noting that her confidence in the performance of the country is well placed.

Stanley Franks Jr. also shared the enthusiasm of the minister. The bid committee member stressed that the committee’s submission was born out of an unbridled devotion to the twin-island Federation.

“I believe very deeply that the work we have done is not work that was done in vain and we are looking forward to hearing from the ICC,” he stressed.

On July 4, the ICC is expected to announce the venues for the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
