Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 14, 2004): Government’s plan to empower young people and develop the talent of athletes continued today with the resurfacing of the netball court at Sandy Point.

Minister with responsibility for youth and sport Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin said the government has previously upgraded the netball facilities at other sporting venues and was happy to have this project come to Sandy Point.

“The netball court in Newtown was resurfaced last year as a part of the general upgrade,” she said. “Earlier this year, we had the resurfacing of three netball courts and yesterday it was the Sandy Point community’s turn to benefit from this investment in our women folk.”

The sole female minister and parliamentary representative for constituency #5 citing the popularity of netball, expressed her desire that more females become involved in the sport. She also explained that this project will also allow current players to sharpen their skills.

Minister Henry-Martin gave her commitment to ensure that additional upgrades continue at the New Sandy Point Recreation Ground.

Tomorrow on ZIZ Television’s “News at 7:00,” SKNIS will present additional information on the work being done at the Sandy Point and present the views of young players.
