(Charlestown, Nevis) - Pastor Davidson Morton of the Cox Church of God spoke out against the recent upsurge of violence in Nevis at a prayer meeting on Tuesday evening at his church.

Pastor Morton also explained to SKNVibes.com that the recent upsurge in violence could be eradicated through social change.

"People need Jesus," he said.  "They need a relationship with Jesus.  No amount of programs will affect people's hearts.  The problem is a heart problem and you cannot fix it until you can get into people's heart with the Word.  The Word is like yeast in the midst of wheat or flour.  When the Word gets into people's heart that is what impacts people's lives because it expands."

Morton said that while the Word is there the Word is light and it brings light and life into people's lives.

"The scripture says, "Thy Word is a lamp which produces light unto my feet," That is what we want people to see.  The Word is a lamp and it is light and the Word is life and the Word has power to transform and change and bring transformation into people's lives and so we hope that many more people can receive the Word," he said.

Morton also explained that the ministering of the Word would help to illuminate the lives of those in the community who are spiritually lost.

"Anytime there is darkness there is always a possibility of light existing somewhere.  Light shines brighter when the place is darker.  So when the place is extremely dark and you put on light it will always transform the community and this little church here is a lighthouse in the community of Cox to illuminate the lives of people within this community and so we are hoping that we will reach more and more people in the community," he said. ~~adz:Right~~

In light of these social issues Pastor Morton sought to describe the role of the prayer meeting in the social transformation of society at large.

"The prayer meeting is designed to pray for the well-being of the church and the service on Sunday morning.  We invite everyone to come by on Sunday morning at 7 a.m. and to have good times, we are seeing more and more people coming and we are hoping that out of this that more persons will come to know Jesus and come to be aware of the existence of the Church of God In Cox," he said.  "We are a community church and we are a church that is designed to reach people in the community and we have had some outreach programs where we have tried to help less fortunate people in the community."

"We have to fulfill the mandate of the kingdom of God and go into the world and preach the gospel.  A mandate has been given to us by God to preach the gospel of the kingdom throughout the world," said Morton in closing.
