BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (JUNE 16TH 2004) – Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, the Hon. Dwyer Astaphan is to formally announce his decision to seek a third term as Parliamentary Representative for Central Basseterre.
“From the beginning of my political career in late 1992, I ask the people of Central Basseterre to consider me to serve as their Parliamentary Representative for two terms. Between the year 2000 and the present, particularly over the past two years, I have been receiving requests from massive numbers of persons in Central Basseterre and elsewhere to reconsider and to place myself for re-election,” said Minister Astaphan.
“I have thought and prayed on the matter and on Thursday 17th June 2004, I shall formally announce to the people of Central Basseterre and to the country my decision concerning a re-election bid,” said Astaphan, who was elected for a first term in the 1995 General Election when he defeated incumbent Prime Minister and Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement, the Right Hon. Dr. Kennedy A. Simmonds.
Mr. Astaphan, a lawyer by profession said his decision to seek a third consecutive term will be made at a Public Meeting of the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party at the corner of Central Street and Fiennes Avenue at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday June 17.
