Basseterre, St. Kitts (May 09, 2007): Over 35 cooks employed at Early Childhood Centres in St. Kitts and Nevis were introduced to a variety of recipes for making beverages from local fruits and vegetables.

The initiative is aimed at getting children to eat healthy and to appreciate local produce.

The session was one of several organized by the Early Childhood Development Unit (ECDU) to ensure that employees at the centres are given the skills and tools necessary to implement their assigned tasks.

Other recent areas of training for early childhood educators included strategies for effective supervision, record keeping and reporting.

Coordinator of Early Childhood Education Vanta Walters told SKNIS that another of the workshops held was Lesson Planning for New Pre-School Teachers. ~~adz:Right~~

She also announced plans for sessions on communication, and special needs children. All seminars will be conducted by Mrs Walters and the team of ECDU resource teachers: Jacqueline Morris, June Wallace, Valerie Dolphin and Rosalind Otto.
