    Special Ed Graduates
    Charlestown Nevis (June 17, 2004)
Principal, staff and students of the Special Education Unit within the Nevis Island Administration, have been given hope for a bright future as Premier and Minister of Education, the Hon Mr. Vance Amory responded to their long awaited cries.
Amory, who delivered brief remarks during the annual graduation ceremony on Wednesday, told the unit that it was his hope that by next year, 2005, that work should begin on their brand new school.

He said, “Having discussed with the Minister of Communications and Works, and having myself discussed when we attended the CDB meeting in May with the technical team from the CDB, I do believe that we are nearer the end and seeing the light at the tunnel.”

In pointing out that the project not only affects the Special Education Unit but the Charlestown Secondary School, the Education Minister noted that the administration was awaiting the CDB technical team to approve the project so that they can move to the next stage of having the tender documents completed.  Prospect Estate was sited for the construction of the school.

Premier Amory also congratulated the students for reaching such a milestone in their lives and complimented the staff and volunteers at the unit for a job well done. He said, “I want to say to Mrs. Francis and the staff members …….. how very proudly we are of the work you are doing.”

“I, as a former teacher as so many of us have been over the years, know that it is not easy to work along with children in schools, and it takes a special gift and I do believe that Mrs. Francis and her staff have demonstrated the special gift of love for our children and a dedication which we really cannot pay them for as a government.”

The graduants, Leon Silcott and Kishone Williams gave their final walk among the gathering of families, friends, and well wishers of the Special Education Unit.

Mr. Jefferson Wallace gave the feature address while Acting Principal of Education, Mrs. Lornette Manners gave brief remarks on behalf of the Department of Education.  The students danced, read poetry and sang for the graudants.

The ceremony was held under the distinguished patronage of Mrs. Cecele Browne, past principal of the school, and under the theme, “Miracles.”  Mrs. Adella Francis, who celebrates her first year as principal of the school, read the report for the school year 2004.
