Persons attending the opening ceremony of the 75th Annual Conference | |

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MAY 24TH 2007 (CUOPM) - Nearly 600 delegates
attending Sunday's 75th Annual Conference of the governing St. Kitts-Nevis
Labour Party have expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister
and National Political Leader, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
Delegates resoundingly endorsed a resolution which read as follows: "whereas
Comrade Denzil Douglas assumed leadership of this great political
organisation, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, 18 years ago, continuing the
work of our great leaders of the past; And whereas the Party has achieved
outstandingly under his leadership, adding to our great achievements over
the last 75 years, be it resolved that conference applauds the Honourable
National Leader and Prime Minister and pray for his health and courage as he
continues the good work."
Delegates also commended the Parliamentary Representative for East
Basseterre, Dr. the Hon. Earl Asim Martin for his vision and foresight in
constructing the Sports Complex and for providing a stable and reliable
electricity service.
Conference noted the Labour Government's provision of homes, thus improving ~~Adz:Right~~
the quality of life of many families and government's intention to construct
another 1,000 homes and congratulated the efforts of the government in
general and the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #8, Hon.
Cedric Liburd, in particular, for his unswerving commitment to serve the
people.
Delegates also passed resolutions recording the gratitude of the Conference
to the founders of the Labour Party, its leaders, the Executive members,
branch officers and comrades in general, for their faithful and loyal
support over the last 75 years; congratulated the Government, the Local
Organising Committee (LOC) and the Ministry of Sports on the successful
hosting of ICC World Cup Cricket matches in St. Kitts and Nevis and also
commended the Government for securing through the Government of Mexico,
financing for the construction of the police stations in Dieppe Bay and
Tabernacle and the opening of the new police station in Frigate Bay.
The Labour Party Conference also passed resolutions calling for the
construction of playing facilities in the Boyd's/West Farm Community; the
conversion of the old Great House into a Multi-Purpose Centre for the
growing Shadwell Community; the resurfacing of the roads in Shadwell, which
has seen a significant increase in the number of homes and the establishment
of proper landing and pier facilities in Palmetto Point for the fishermen.
