Acting Premier Malcolm Guishard greets South Africa Hon Consul Dr Gosnell Yorke |
Charlestown Nevis (June 23, 2004) South Africa Honorary Consul to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Gosnell Yorke, on Wednesday during his visit to Nevis, paid courtesy call on Acting Premier, the Hon Mr. Malcolm Guishard and members of the Nevis Island Cabinet, at the Administration’s Conference Room, Charlestown.
The diplomat who was on his first visit to Nevis sought to establish relations with the Nevis Island Government, and in so doing expressed his gratitude for the hospitality he had received so far.
As he extended warm greetings and compliments he also extended greetings to the Premier, the Hon Vance Amory. He said, “I mentioned his name with warm memories, in that, we were at grammar school together in the sixties, and so I wish to invoke his name in his absence.”
“I wish to thank all of you for taking time out of what must be a very hectic schedule to make our meeting here, however brief possible. To me its an auspicious occasion and an important day,” commented Dr. Yorke.
In his brief remarks, Dr. Yorke reflected on today’s date, (June 23) and noted that it was the day when Marcus Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) some 85 years ago.

The Acting Premier took the opportunity to welcome Dr. Yorke to the shores of Nevis, as he thanked him for the work he has been doing for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, in South Africa.
He added, “It is a long way away from St. Kitts and Nevis, but I’m certain that the Prime Minister has already indicated to you his gratitude and I am doing it also, on behalf of the Premier of Nevis who is away on public business.”
