    Terrissa Coretta Martin
Among the 93 students graduating from the Brown Medical School, Rhode Island on Sunday May 28, 2007, was Terrissa Coretta Martin. This special and proud moment in Terrissa's life was shared with her family and friends.

Terrissa's journey began at the Academy School on Irish Town Bay Road under the Leadership of Mr. Larry Armony (principal) and Mrs. Ullida Gill (also principal in her later years). Terrissa transferred to the Basseterre Junior and Senior High Schools where she acquired 9 "O" level passes and then continued her senior years at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College where she achieved 3 "A" level passes. Upon graduation from CFB she went on to teach at the Verchilds High school.

As a child Terrissa had dreamed of becoming a doctor, so she migrated to the United States in January of 2000, where she attended Hunter College in New York City. As a student Terrissa was a member of MBRS (Minority Biomedical Research Support) group, funded by NIH (the National Institute of Health).

This prestigious group provided her with a full scholarship, a stipend of $10,000 US per year, and the
opportunity to acquire research skills. Terrissa's thirst for knowledge led her to research in the fields of chemistry and psychology at both her home school Hunter College and Rockefeller University. She presented her research at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Washington, DC (2000); Orlando, FL (2001); and New Orleans, LA (2002). In her spare time Terrissa volunteered in the Pediatric ICU at New York Presbyterian Hospital and tutored math and english for junior high school children in her neighborhood. At the completion of her studies at Hunter College she achieved a Bachelor's of Arts in Biochemistry with Thomas Hunter Honors in "Asian Approaches to the Body".

Terrissa then continued her studies as a medical student with a joint program at Dartmouth and Brown Medical School. She was an active member of SNMA (the Student National Medical Associations), working tirelessly alongside her colleagues to organize health fairs and teaching sessions on such topics as "diabetic foot care", with the ultimate goal of improving healthcare for minority groups. She also continued her participation in research resulting in a publication entitled " Adjuvant therapy for endometrial cancer: "sandwich therapy" of carboplatin and paclitaxel with radiation therapy" to be released in the medical journal Cancer Therapy in the coming months.

~~Adz:Left~~Terrissa graduates from Brown with the much coveted Doctor of Medicine Degree. She will continue her training as Obstetrician-Gynecologist at the Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. She has also been named Clinical Assistant Instructor for medical students at The SUNY Stonybrook Medical School.

Terrissa is from Basseterre and is the daughter of Glenroy Martin of Irish Town Bay Rd., and Avril Toussaint of Queens, NY and the granddaughter of Mavis Osborne, Greenlands. Terrissa is eternally grateful to all who have encouraged her in her endeavors: her parents, family and friends, her teachers at the Academy School, Washington Archibald High School (then Basseterre Junior High), Basseterre High School, and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College of Further Education. Last, but not least, Terrissa thanks God for the blessings of a loving and supportive family, a quick mind, and the desire to make a difference.
