BASSETERRE St. Kitts June 14th 2011 - As activities to mark the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis’ 30th anniversary celebrations continue, Blue House overcame stiff competition from Green House to emerge winner in the Fun/Sports Day meet held at Frigate Bay in St. Kitts on Whit Monday.
Staff members, led by General Manager Lenworth Harris, and members of their families were divided into three houses, Blue, Red and Green and took part in various sporting disciplines ranging from dominos, needles and thread races to cricket and at the end of the day, Blue House, captained by Kristyl Bristol had amassed a total of 193 points.
Green House, captained by Shavon Douglas, took the second position with a total of 173 points, along with it the tug-of-war title, which was the most hotly contested discipline. Red House, captained by Gizelle Williams took the third position with a total of 121 points. The Williams-led team sprinted away with the relay race title, which also proved to be an exciting discipline.
According to the sports coordinator, Tiffany Richards, a seven aside, three-overs cricket competition, was the last discipline for the eventful day that saw staff from the branch office in Nevis travelling to St. Kitts to join their head office counterparts. They were also joined by Deputy Chairperson of the Development Bank’s Board of Directors, Rubie Taylor.
Blue House which was buoyed by Candace Godwin’s batting won in the cricket competition and added 20 points to their already unassailable lead. However, in a rare lapse of good judgement, she ran-out her husband Ian Godwin in a rush to earn a single run. Red House which had the services of former St. Kitts national cricketer, Lenworth Harris (now general manger of the Development Bank) was placed second earning 15 points, while Green House at third position took 10 points.
Winners in the other disciplines were as follows: Dominos (Blue House), needle and thread (Green House), 60 metres (Blue House), three-legged (Blue House), boys 60 metres (Green House), girls 60 metre (Red House), 1st sack-cloth race women (Blue House), 2nd sack-cloth race women (Green House), 1st sack cloth race men (Blue House), 2nd sack-cloth race men (Green House), sack cloth race children (Blue), under-15 sack cloth race (Green), lime and spoon (Green House).
General Manager Lenworth Harris thanked all the staff members for turning out and also members of their families who helped make the day quite competitive and rewarding. He reminded them that the Bank’s 30th anniversary celebrations activities continue with tree planting in various communities during the week and a bazaar/customer appreciation day will be observed on Thursday June 23 on Central Street in Basseterre and at Stoney Grove in Nevis.
