    Premier of Nevis the Hon. Joseph Parry
    CHARLESTOWN
    NEVIS (June 11. 2007) -- Nevis was wrapped in grief Monday as word spread rapidly of the passing of Federal Parliamentarian the Hon. Malcolm Guishard.

    Police reports indicate that Mr. Guishard had complained of shortness of breath while on his usual early morning swim at Gallows Bay. He was rushed to the Alexandra Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival there.
     
    Premier of Nevis the Hon. Joseph Parry who was at the time in New York attending the Caribbean Week in a live radio address he conveyed his condolences.
     
    The following is the full text of his statement
     
    "I offer greetings to the people of Nevis. The Cabinet of the Nevis Island Assembly was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of the Leader of the Opposition in the Federal Parliament and Former Deputy Premier of Nevis the Hon. Malcolm Guishard."
     
    "During this difficult time, our thoughts are with his family, particularly his wife Mrs. Yvonne Guishard, his parents and his children. The Premier and Cabinet on behalf of the government and people of Nevis, register heartfelt sympathy.
     
    "Among the special qualities that Mr. Guishard possessed was his warm personality and his love for people which touched the lives of many at home and abroad.

    "At the time of his passing, Mr. Guishard was the Federal Representative of the Electoral District of Nevis #9 comprising the parishes of St. Pauls and St. Johns.
     
    "He served the people of Nevis from 1992 to 2006 as the Minister of Communications, Tourism, Agriculture, Housing, Culture and Information. I urge all of us to remember that those who live in the hearts of others never die.

    "On behalf of my wife and Family the Cabinet of the Nevis Island Administration and the people of Nevis, I extend sincere condolences to Mrs Yvonne Guishard, her children as well as the parents and siblings and I pray that God will grant them the strength to stay strong in this hour of their bereavement. May God bless us all."
