Mr. Parry’s call came while he made brief remarks during a press briefing at the Bath Hotel, on Friday June 15, 2007, with Prime Minister the Hon. “We must indicate, inspite of differences, that on an occasion like this, [that] the people, the politicians, the leaders of industry and everyone should come together to demonstrate appreciation for the great service that any person has given and indeed what Mr. Guishard has given.

“That message must go down to the young people of this country, that when you serve it is an honour and when you serve it is appreciative so I am very proud Prime Minister for what is being done… It is the right signal for this nation, it demonstrated maturity on behalf of all of us and it is the right signal. It is a strong signal and message to the young people of this country. Serving your country is very honourable.

Throughout the ages, it is the most outstanding thing to be able to serve publicly, to be of public service and to serve your country and the Honourable Malcolm Guishard served for 14 years,” he said.                   ~~Adz:Right~~

Mr. Parry said Mr. Guishard had served Nevis and the Federation well at both the Federal and island levels. He referred to Mr. Guishard’s tenure in the Nevis Island Administration as Minister of Tourism, an area he said the former Minister had made his greatest mark “I do believe he made his greatest mark in tourism and we do appreciate the efforts he made to ensure that Nevis continues to move forward in the world of tourism.

I can assure that the people of Nevis that indeed the name of Nevis stands very tall because I am just back from New York where many, many persons spoke very highly of the type of tourism that we are fostering and growing here on the island of Nevis,” he said.

The Premier also used the opportunity to thank the Federal Government for all the funeral arrangements they had put in place and the honour they had given to the late Mr. Guishard for his service and to offer condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the Nevis Island Administration and the people of Nevis.
