ROADTOWN Tortola, BVI, June 16th 2011 - With music, song and dance the Enis Adams Primary School officially welcomed their corporate adopter, LIME to their school family.

The school was officially adopted under the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Adopt-A-School Programme and received an initial monetary contribution of $5,000 from its adopter.

In a brief ceremony held at the school this week, Minister of Education and Culture Hon. Andrew Fahie thanked LIME for their contribution to the Territory’s education system over the years. “LIME has been one of those companies in the Virgin Islands that continue to work well with the education system and they have done a lot for both the public and private schools,” he said.

Minister Fahie told the gathering that LIME is not one of those companies that “make their money and forget about giving back and investing into the community”.

Honourable Fahie added that this programme facilitates partnership between Government and the business community, “There is nowhere in the world that Government can do it all on its own. When Government works with businesses, parents, schools and the community as a whole we can achieve more.”

District Representative Honourable J. Alvin Christopher also thanked LIME for adopting the school, which he called the “Beacon on the Hill”. “I want to thank you for supporting this Government in this initiative and commend you for the work you have played in making sure that the education system in the Virgin Islands continue to be one of excellence,” he said.

Principal of the school and Chairman of the Adopt-A-School Committee Mrs. Carlene Parsons stated that LIME will not only be helping them financially but they will also be involved in working with and mentoring the students.

“We are hoping to build a strong relationship with our adopter and we will continue to work tirelessly so that we can continue to achieve our goals,” she said.

LIME Representative Mrs. Patricia Blaize-Adams expressed LIME’s pleasure of being the corporate partner of the school. She explained that this initiative fits well with LIME’s pillars, which speaks specifically to “community involvement in education and youth. “We endeavour to build a lasting relationship with the faculty, parents and students in order to influence the next generation in a positive manner,” she said.

Former teacher of the school Mrs. Delita Turnbull enlighten the gathering with a brief history of the school and brought to light the school’s accomplishments over the years. She said that school opened its doors in 1963 with a total of 112 students and in 1988 after 25 years the school was named in honour of its “pioneer principal” the late Mrs. Enis Adams Cushnie.

Assistant Secretary of the Adopt-A-School Committee Ms. Alison Scatliffe told the gathering that the committee was very excited to welcome LIME on board and it is looking forward to a lasting and productive partnership.

The Adopt-A-School Programme was launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture in October, 2007. A total of 11 primary schools have already been adopted under this programme of which the main purpose is to provide a necessary link between schools and donor organisations, to educate and ensure that each school environment is conducive to a dynamic learning experience.
