SKN Special Olympians leave for Greece this weekend

The Special Olympic Team 2010
Press Release

SKN Special Olympians leave for Greece this weekend

    Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: St. Kitts and Nevis will be one of the 180 countries participating in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Greece June 24 – July 4.

It will be the largest sporting event in the world this year as 7 500 athlete, 3 000 officials and 25 000 volunteers will come together to make it happen.

St. Kitts and Nevis athletes will compete in athletics, swimming, bocce and table tennis. This is the first time the Federation is fielding a table tennis team but the athletes have always performed well in the other sports.

The World Games give the athletes the chance to compete at the highest level. Athletes who compete and do well at this level return home more confident and more determined to overcome challenges in life. Many of the athletes who have attended Games are now contributing, working citizens in the Federation.

    MORE FUNDS NEEDED

Special Olympics is able to give these athletes the chance because of the generosity of individuals and businesses who donate to Special Olympics year after year.

This year because of the economic situation in the world, the donations have not been as forthcoming.

Special Olympics wishes to urge the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis to dig deep and help Special Olympics to attend the Games. Special Olympics still needs about $45 000 to meet the target.

Special Olympics has always raised the monies to send the team to the World Games. The teams have competed in China, in Austria, in Ireland and in the United States. They have always done the country proud, returning home with several medals including gold.

It is not too late to contribute to helping these challenged children to realise their dreams and to uphold our Federation’s name world-wide.
