Something To Cheer About Cheerleading Boot Camp 2011

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, June 20th 2011 - Cheer Coaches Who Care Cheerleading Association (CCCCSKN) consist of a group of local dedicated, talented and determined cheerleading coaches working towards developing the holistic skills sets of participants of the annual Inter High School Cheerleading Competition. This group goal is to provide a positive medium for adolescents to portray their expressive nature, via the art forms of dance and cheer while developing the appropriate skill sets necessary for safety and team development. The group was developed by Kerlyn Williams and Tomeeka Richards, and Naeemah Hazelle Menon, coaches for Basseterre High School and Washington Archibald High School respectively.

The Inter School High School Cheerleading Competition which takes place in spring of every year will be celebrating its 8th year in the upcoming season.

However despite years of difficult routines and dangerous stunts being performed by all schools, thankfully no substantial injuries have taken place. While teams have become more competitive and performance expectations higher, the capacity for growth is limited locally as the sport is new to our culture. The CCCC Association believes not only in the growth of its internal members but that of the entire activity on the island. In an effort to facilitate this growth CCCC Association (SKN) believes that extending an invitation to a qualified cheerleading coach was indeed the first step to the successful growth of the activity on the island.

Mrs. Larisa Senft is a United States All Star Foundation (USASF) accredited Cheerleading Coach, having accumulated more than twenty (20) years of cheerleading experience. Mrs. Senft also amassed approximately twenty five (25) accredited certificates in categories including but not limited to areas such as basket tosses, tumbling, stunting and pyramids.

Mrs. Senft and her team will be conducting a local cheerleading workshop dubbed, ‘Something to Cheer About’ Cheerleading Boot camp 2011. This is the second time Mrs. Senft has conducted workshops on the island. The first CCCC venture supported with assistance from The SKNAAA, Aqua Vita, The Royal St. Kitts Hotel & Casino and Pizza Boys Inc., was successful on a smaller scale and necessitated further training and a more expansive approach.

The workshop will be held from July 9th to July 17th, each day focusing on a skill area, and culminating a with a prize giving ceremony and expo in which the general public is invited to. The cost for the workshop is $100 per week and is open to boys and girls aged 9 to 18. Students can sign up through their various institutions or sign up online via the group’s facebook page listed as Cheer Coaches (who) Care Cheerleading Association.

In order to facilitate this non-profit venture the CCCC (SKN) Association are soliciting sponsorship contributions from local businesses in addition to the nominal fees being charged to the participants.

We are looking forward to a great turnout and would like to encourage parents and students to reserve their spaces as soon as possible.
