Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, June 20th 2011 - An exciting musical pleasure is in store when the Lawrence School of Music presents their landmark 30th Annual Pianoforte concert at St. George’s Anglican Church on Tuesday, 12th July 2011.

For 29 years, these concerts have brought joy to the hearts of many through the performances of our young people.  It is uplifting to see our young people discipline themselves and harness their talents to produce a programme of this quality.  This is to be commended and encouraged.

This landmark concert represents several significant milestones.  Firstly, this concert represents the longevity and the success of the Music School, their concerts and their continued contributions to the appreciation and advancement of music in our community.  For example, some of the present and past musicians of the Music School are already giving service in churches, in other music groups, etc.

Secondly, this concert is in celebration of the appointment as a Canon of Rev. Fr. Isaiah Phillip, the resident Priest of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church.  This appointment will be celebrated June 29, 2011.  The Music School, with the community, extends enthusiastic congratulations on his richly deserved and signal honour.

Our concert will feature original, sacred, popular and classical music – music to suit every taste.  Original compositions and arrangements by Lady Hulda Lawrence, which are always a favourite with the audience, will be presented.  Some of our country’s best musicians will come together to display their musical gifts in various ways – vocal and instrumental.  Group songs and solo voices of the young people are always a pleasure.  Another enhancing factor will be the presentations on various musical instruments.

Last years concert was held to benefit Olivet Gospel Hall.  This well-attended concert was described as pure pleasure by those fortunate persons in attendance.  The concert was such a success that the Lawrence School of Music made a $10,000 presentation to that Church.

The Music School continues to help with various needs in the community, including food distribution to needy elderly persons every month.

The proceeds of this year’s concert will go to St. Peter’s Anglican Church to aid the continuation of their church’s services and community outreach.

The Music School says thanks to all who support these concerts.
