St. Kitts Entertainment Review

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Last weekend was another exciting one filled with parties, but this time it was venues on the western side of the island that were pulsating with music and interrupting the quiet country atmosphere.

ON FRIDAY the St. Kitts Music Festival Local Promotions Committee transformed Princess Street into a mini festival venue throughout the day.

Many people crowded the street as Chalice Sounds hyped up the promotional event. A few lucky individuals won themselves tickets for the much anticipated Music Festival and the Small Axe Band later closed off the event with some pep.

Later that evening at the Frigate Bay Strip, Ziggy’s Bar put many of the other bars to shame as it was the only venue packed inside and out. Even the sandy ground to the back entrance of the venue was filled with patrons dancing and socializing as the DJ filled the air with a variety of music.

Many of the other bars were practically empty, with the exception of Lava Ground and Buddies, who both had small crowds.

The following day (SATURDAY) at The Basement many patrons followed the white-T and jeans dress code and the event saw a great turn out... but there were still a few patrons who deviated from the theme and did their own thing.

Meanwhile, on the western side of the island in Old Road, Sprat Net had a large turnout for the Father’s Day Affair. When SKNVibes reached the venue, patrons lined the outside and parking could only be found some meters away around the corner from the venue.

Many people swayed to the sounds of the DJs but when  ‘the sweetest band in the land’ – Small Axe Band began to play songs such as ‘De Soap Drop’ it was clear to see that this was what many females wanted to hear as they mimicked moves to match the lyrics of the song.

About four villages away, the G-Spot in Sandy Point had a full house for the owner’s Rush Birthday Bash and Father’s Day event.

Although there were a few interruptions from police who threatened to stop the party, it managed to stay in full swing until around 5:00 a.m.  A number of females showed off their flexibility dancing on a pole for a monetary prize, while one man won a prize for being the father at the venue with the most children.

On SUNDAY, patrons began showing up at Ziggy’s Bar as the night progressed and in the end it was a nice crowd entertained by DJ Yardy.
