(Basseterre; St. Kitts):  Cable & Wireless welcomed its newest and perhaps youngest shareholder with the presentation of a share certificate to the father of Baby Shiloh Flemming on the weekend.

The presentation would have fulfilled the promise to present the father of the winning baby, shares to the value of EC$5,000 – the main prize of its bmobile Father’s Day Promotion.

The overjoyed father – Gene Bridgewater, was lost for words as he accepted the share certificate of 1,000 shares, which he would hold in trust for his daughter until she attains age 18. “This is going to put my daughter in good stead when she is ready to attend college,” the proud father announced.

Commending the father for winning on behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and staff, Chief Executive, Pat Walters informed him that Shiloh was truly lucky to have won the contest. “If you were following the results on line, you would have recognized that in the first couple of days she was not one of the front runners. To have come from behind to overtake everyone and eventually win this contest suggests that you and your family played a very active role in the eventual outcome.”

Before handing over the share certificate to Mr. Bridgewater, Vice President Finance, Jonathan Bass, admonished the father to continue to strengthen the already visible bond with his daughter. “With all of the current social challenges that we are facing, we will like to ask you to ensure that you actively engage in the raising of your daughter.” These remarks were relevant against the backdrop of the theme of the promotion, Building strong families, engaging strong fathers.

The promotion considered original by many, was framed to coincide with Father’s Day and encouraged fathers to drop photos of their baby in a drop box in Cable & Wireless stores. From the total submission of about 70 photos, 10 were selected as finalists and were featured in the local papers and online. Customers, by their cumulative text votes then determined which of the babies won the main prize of $5000 in Cable & Wireless shares.

Daily reports filed to select radio stations by the marketing department as well as an online graph of the distribution of votes posted on www.sknvibes.com, kept customers fully informed of the percentage votes per baby and provided further stimulation for the campaign.

When the final scores were tallied, Baby Shiloh out did her closest rival by over 70 votes. Cable & Wireless wishes through this medium to thank the many customers for their support that led to the eventual success of this promotion.
