OAS Representative in St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Sterret Greene

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, (CUOPM) Five nationals of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis have been awarded new Academic Scholarships for both Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, for the 2007/2008 academic period.

OAS Representative in the twin-island Federation, Mr. Starret Greene said the scholarships are offered for studies, towards Bachelors and Masters Degrees, at Universities in the West Indies and the United States of America, in August/September 2007.

"Each scholarship is awarded for an initial period of one year and may be renewed subsequently for up to one additional year if funds remain available, the students achieve high grade point averages and the program of study for which the scholarship was initially warded is maintained," said Mr. Greene in a statement.

He remarked that his organization remained fully committed to supporting the development objectives of the Government as well as the academic pursuits and goals of the students in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, provided that awardees remained fully committed to contributing to the political, economic, social and cultural development of the Twin-island Federation.

Mr. Greene observed that in granting these five scholarships, the OAS was investing, for the current academic year, up to US$150,000.00 (EC$405,000.00) in preparing aspiring citizens of the Federation to better serve the nation in various capacities.

At the undergraduate level, one scholarship was awarded to Kennedy Pemberton for studies in International Tourism Management, at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad. In addition, four scholarships, at the graduate level, were awarded to Jewellen Manners, psychology, U.S.A.; Kenesha Woods, Accounting (Forensic Account), USA; Jenna Evelyn, Business Administration, USA; and Deshai Dore, Business Administration, U.S.A.

The OAS official said that the selection of awardees was based on the principle governing the fundamental rights of the individual without distinction to race, nationality, creed or sex.                                           ~~Adz:Right~~
