~~Adz:Left~~Basseterre, St. Kitts (July 04, 2005): A one-day symposium for stakeholders interested in developing strategies for healthy lifestyle promotion is planned for July 5th.
A representative of the Health Promotion Unit of the Ministry of Health told SKNIS that several topics will be discussed including the rationale for health promotion; determinants of health; planning and designing health promotion interventions; and health promotion in action.
A combination of presentations and small group exercises will focus participants on community-wide health promotion. The development of specific programmes for use in schools and places of employment will be outlined during the day-long activity. ~~Adz:Right~~
It is the wish of the organizers to identify a minimum of four groups locally who will spearhead a national healthy-lifestyles programme before the end of 2007.
The Health Promotion Unit spokesperson revealed that evidence throughout the globe indicates that health promotion is effective in minimizing of chronic and other diseases.
The meeting will be held at the Ocean Terrace Inn on Thursday at 8:15am.
